The mission of God is to bless the entire world (Genesis 12) by bringing it under the lordship of God’s Son, Jesus Christ (Matthew 28). The mission of God’s people is most clearly understood by those who have immersed themselves in the whole story of the Bible.
The cross and resurrection of Jesus bring us to the central point of the whole story of God’s redemption. Here is God’s answer to every dimension of sin and evil in the cosmos and all their destructive effects. Because of their central place in God’s redemptive work the cross and the resurrection must be central to every dimension of the mission of God’s people – from personal evangelism among individual friends to ecological care for creation, and everything in between.
Our Community Ministry Group help the congregation understand the needs of the community around us. This group is responsible for coordinating and facilitating practical outreach for the following ministries:
- Bloomfields Nursing Home
- Peace Building
- The Globe (outreach to the international community)
- Clarawood (including the OAK Centre)
- Ballyhackamore Traders
- Engagement with parents of children and young people attending our ministries
The group also assist the Kirk Session in discerning further or different opportunities for being a blessing to Ballyhackamore in God’s name.
Playing Our Part
In early 2012 the Kirk Session took time to work through a Biblical understanding of our call to share the good news of the gospel. A document was published looking at the Biblical mandate and example for mission, and terms of reference were drawn up for both the Community Ministries Group and the one world group . You can read this document here.
